I used to be satisfied with just the line...Its a mystery to me... I still don't know a lot about etching and with each of these plates there has been that unknown thread that produces a surprising outcome and keeps me wanting to learn more.. to create more depth and tone if I can...
Some days a cup of tea never lasts as long as you want it to so I had to put the kettle on and start the tea ritual....many times in between the proofs.. Prints still not finished as I scraped some parts imparting a grey and try as I might I cant get the velvet black I want.. Anyway the radio is on ...and the song is Charley Pride's Roll on Mississippi..
This print came back out and was shown at the Impress Printmakers new years pop up show. Its made up of a stencil & little woodcut as well as traced pin drawing...
Contemporary Impressions March 2018
This series of prints were exhibited at Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne. I'm glad I got to show them again after the initial appearance at my solo show in 2017. The creatures are from an ongoing series I'm creating. They are about Masalai which is a term given to spirits in Papua New Guinea (my cultural heritage). Masalai are mostly feared as they are said to trick humans and a lot of cultural stories indicate this. Anthropomorphic, two headed, beastly and totally wonderful for the imagination! They stem from animist beliefs that pervade today in PNG and other places.
The figures were made from collages in my show Flash Alternative Enigma's about Bilas or dressing up & transformation..
